Capsule Wardrobe

I’m a huge fan of capsule wardrobes and here’s why!

In case you may not know, a capsule wardrobe consists of a select number of staple clothing pieces in your closet (approx. 20-50) that are ready-to-wear and can easily be made into timeless outfits. The purpose of one is to focus on the quality of your clothes rather than the quantity and reduce the number of items you don’t tend to wear often.

I built mine out a couple of years back when I was trying to figure out my style and wanted to stop consuming fast fashion. I noticed I was following too many trends and it became difficult to pick out an outfit every morning, so I decided to clean out my closet.

Because I was a college student at the time, I didn’t have the means to buy an entirely new wardrobe, so I slowly got rid of my old clothes. It took about two years to get basic, quality pieces and even though I wanted to stop purchasing fast fashion, my reality was that I had income limitations. Instead, I did buy from stores like H&M and Zara, but I made sure I was mindful of the amount of pieces I bought, the material/fabric, and the after/home care of my clothes.

It was a long process to get to where I am now and I still don’t think I’ve fully found my style, but now that my staple pieces are set I’m excited to consciously find who I am!

I’d recommend anyone else who’s trying to figure out their own style to give this a try! My staple pieces might look different than yours depending on our taste, but that’s the beauty of it. We’re all unique in our own way!!

PS: Once it’s all complete you can also create small capsules from your closet for each season or purpose! 😉
